SaleSnap ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that helps estate sale operators generate photo captions and a listing description for EstateSales.net. This page explains what data it accesses, what it sends where, and why — written to match exactly what the code does, not general boilerplate.

What the extension accesses

The extension only runs on EstateSales.net's own Sale Wizard pages (estatesales.net/account/sale-wizard/...) — it has no access to any other website, your browsing history, or any other tab. On those pages, it reads:

• The photos you've already uploaded to your own sale listing (to identify each item and generate a caption for it).
• The page's caption and description input fields (to fill in the generated text — it never fills anything you haven't asked it to, and never clicks Save/Publish on your behalf).

It never accesses or stores your EstateSales.net username, password, or login session.

What gets sent to SaleSnap's server

When you click "Generate captions," the extension sends your sale's photos to SaleSnap's own backend server, which:

• Stores the photos and the AI-generated captions, tags, and listing description.
• Sends the photos and item data to Anthropic (the maker of Claude, the AI model SaleSnap uses) for the actual image analysis and text generation. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle that data.

No other third party receives your data. SaleSnap does not sell or share your data for advertising.

Usage statistics

So we can tell whether SaleSnap is working well, the extension sends SaleSnap's server a short, anonymous note when certain things happen: it's installed or updated, the popup is opened, captions are generated, or captions or a description are filled in. These notes contain only counts and outcomes (for example, "filled 42 of 45 captions" or a short error message if something failed), the extension's version number, and the random identifier described below. They never include your photos, captions, listing text, or anything else from the page, and they aren't sent to any analytics company or other third party.

How you're identified

SaleSnap doesn't use accounts, logins, email addresses, or passwords. On first use, the extension generates a random identifier and stores it in your browser (chrome.storage.local) — this is what keeps your sales separate from other SaleSnap users'. It isn't tied to your name, email, or any other personal information, and it never leaves your browser except as a bare identifier sent with each request to SaleSnap's server so it knows which sales are yours.

Because there's no account recovery, if you clear your browser's storage or switch computers, you'll get a new identifier and lose access to previous sales' data in SaleSnap (your actual EstateSales.net listing is unaffected either way).

Data retention & deletion

Photos and generated captions are kept so you can come back and re-fill or regenerate a listing later. To request deletion of your data, contact rdjohn1353@gmail.com.

Children's privacy

SaleSnap is a business tool for estate sale operators and is not directed at, or knowingly used by, children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
